I notice a predominance of heartbroken bloggers writing about lost love and broken hearts and it's getting monotonous. I understand it though - generally our observations are pretty shallow and our feelings consequently follow suit. So when we break up with someone or someone close to us dies or someone is born close to us we're able to fairly easily think up something to write because we see these as key events.
It's those times in between that are tough to write about, where life is happening but seemingly not much deep stuff is going on. People still have a shot at writing about that stuff as you can see - recipes, what I did on vacation etc and unfortunately that too is in the main monotonous and dull - with respect!
And, when he shall die,
Take him and cut him out in little stars,
And he will make the face of heaven so fine
That all the world will be in love with night
And pay no worship to the garish sun.
A friend in Japan in told me that a few years back the Hankyu department store did a huge Christmas display but they got it wrong. They had Santa nailed to the cross... cool huh. The alternative of course is waiting for Jesus to bring presents – unlikely in my view.
Even musicians I admire, AMERICAN ONES, like Steve Earle and Tom Waits, sing songs about servicemen (I think it's an American flag-waving thing) - BOLD, WORKING CLASS, MISLEAD, CHEATED. But these guys should know better, the servicemen I mean (and probably Steve Earle and co.) - It's not about free room and board and getting your teeth done.
Most learning happens in spite of schools and teachers - it occurs naturally and is generally hampered by schooling. School is a sweet trap where it starts as play but begins a lifetime path of us falling prey to institutionalisation. What it really is, is a child-minding facility that has become a training ground for junior consumers.
Don't you find it weird that when Jesus was around he struggled to gather more than a handful of followers? It was tough following Jesus, he said stuff like "let the dead bury the dead!" BUT as soon as he died, when he wasn't around to give direction, all of a sudden the number of followers starts GROWING. People can place their own interpretation on Jesus and DO WHAT THEY LIKE. Most of the major religions follow this template.
Being born is going blind
And buying down a thousand times
To echoes strung
On pure temptation
Empty moments are what we need. Things like iPods, downloading music, blogs are WORK that fill our time - we're AFRAID OF EMPTINESS - we feel it makes us closer to death.
Fly the flag, blow the bugle, and learn to see what isn't there.
